SOLOMON AND SHEBA PAGEANT

Queen of Sheba Sis. Evelyn Booker-Woods

The Solomon and Sheba Pageant took place on June 11th, 2011 at the Hall and it was a great time had by all.

Led by Bro. Charles Clarke, the pageant was chaired on the Sister side, by our lovely Sis. Emma Darey, who did a tremendous job of working with a spectacular team of Brothers and Sisters to pull together the Royal Blue and White affair.

Our reigning Queen is Sis. Evelyn Booker-Woods who stated, "Accepting the Queen of Sheba award was a complete honor. I am so happy I was able to continue to carry the torch on behalf of Katie Chapter #2. I look forward to next year."

Please take the time to congratulate Sis. Booker-Woods and Bro. Gerald on their reign for the ensuing year 2011-2012. Great job Solomon and Sheba!

GIVING BACK

Under the leadership of WM Rosie McCarter, and the direction of AWM Yvette Cooper, Sheba #83 continues to be in the Spotlight for their countless charitable efforts. This year, they have done the following services:

South Suburban PADS: Sheba #83 volunteers its time and food to PADS, who has an inter-faith program providing shelter and supportive services to homeless persons. Compassion, hospitality and dignity are key characteristics of the PADS program.

Providing warm, secure overnight lodging, meals and hospitality at 23 local churches and synagogues, on a rotating basis. Shelter is provided between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. from mid October to mid April.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository: The Chapter volunteers on the flex-line and other areas on a regular basis. And in an ongoing effort to support The Food Depository, they have participated in the annual 5K (3.1 miles) Hunger Walk directly benefits the Food Depository's network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in Cook County. The 26th Annual Hunger Walk will be held June 25, 2011, at Soldier Field. Registration the day of the walk is FREE, but we do encourage fundraising to benefit our member agencies.

A Little Bit of Heaven is a 50 plus bed facility where Sheba #83 volunteers its time, food and toiletries. This facility has been in existence for over eight years. Located on Chicago's south side, A Little Bit of Heaven assists homeless men in the Chicagoland area, surrounding suburbs and from out-of-state. Each participant is given a safe, clean environment, hot nutritional meals, clothing and personal hygiene items as well as 24 hour security.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES: We would like to congratulate Sis. LaDonna Taylor on a job well done. She has taken on the role of mentor, mother, big-sister and friend to many teen and adolescent moms, helping them to navigate difficult times, and ensuring they stay in school. In an effort to continue our ongoing support of Sis. Taylor and her efforts, Sheba #83 donated a bounty of school supplies to these young ladies encouraging them to stay in school.

Kudos to Sheba #83 for their continued charitable service each and every month of the year. Keep up the motivation to SERVE.
