HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois, Incorporated, originated in 1922 when it was known as the Most Worshipful St. John Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Illinois. The Honorable Vivian Vasin, 33° was the first Most Worshipful Grand Master. In 1930 after reorganization, the name of the Grand Lodge was changed to The Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Illinois and was incorporated with that name in 1934. In 1960, after a merger of Illinois Grand Lodges, the name was changed to the Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois, Inc. The Honorable Tommy Furlow, 33°, is the current Most Worshipful Grand Master.
The Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Illinois is affiliated with the Original General Grand Masonic Congress of Grand Masters, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the United States and Canada, Inc. It is also affiliated with the Original Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry for the Thirty-Third and Last Degree of Freemasonry for the United States of America and its Territories.
The Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star was organized and incorporated in 1935 by the Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Illinois, Inc. Sister Desomina K. Hendricks was the first Grand Worthy Matron and the Hon. William McGee was the first Grand Worthy Patron. In 1960 the Grand Lodge changed its name to the Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Illinois, Inc. The current Grand Worthy Matron is Sister Alice J. Jackson, and the current Grand Worthy Patron is the Hon. Tommy Furlow, 33°. |
